AFRL Public Affairs Support Services Must have a valid SECRET Clearance We are seeking a Journalist / Creative Writer / Editor (Journeyman - Mid Level) to support the Air Force Research Laboratory Public Affairs Directorate (AFRL/PA).

Summary:
This position supports the AFRL Public Affairs Office.
The Journalist/Creative Writer/Editor will, using journalistic Associated Press (AP) style, write, edit, proofread and copy/edit a variety of documents, press releases, human interest features, magazines, social media content, science articles and other journalistic-type articles.
The PA Office will assign stories to the Journalist/Creative Writer/Editor to plan and prepare written content for dissemination both internally and externally to the public and ensure all documents meet established organizational and industry standards.
The Journalist/Creative Writer/Editor shall research, develop, investigate, and write a variety of science-related and human-interest news and feature stories through interviews, observations, networking, and library/online resources for publication in national-level print magazines, press releases, and online content.
Evaluate and recommend the tone and intended audience of the story, investigate and determine the validity of story leads, and collaborate with the creative team and other departments.
Responsibilities include:
Provide editorial research and interview services to provide content development writing and editing support as necessary to develop original informational content for dissemination for a variety of platforms including printed articles, press releases, digital newsletter, websites, social media, and marketing material.
Review raw document drafts and revise as necessary to meet style, format, quality, and strategic messaging requirements.
Develop, review, revise, and track creative outreach products, campaigns, and projects.
Exhibit a solid understanding of Associated Press style of writing, considerable experience interviewing people, and writing engaging news stories.
Exhibit the ability to simplify complex information into understandable written content.
Exhibit typical inverted triangle news writing format, where the most important information is presented first, the body of the story contains important details, and the tail includes other, general background information.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid SECRET security clearance Demonstrated proficiency using desktop publishing tools such as Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Adhere to writing standards and project timelines.
Ability to write content that is clear, easy to understand, engaging, and grammatically correct.
Strong time-management skills; management of time-sensitive deadlines simultaneously and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to maintain positive relationships with team members, clients, senior leadership, and external agencies.
Strong collaborative and team-building skills and be responsive to various, short-notice changes in tasking.
Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of relevant experience is required, or an Associate degree and eight (8) years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated professional experience writing and copy-editing articles, press releases or other written content describing scientific or technical topics using lay language for a general audience using the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook.
Active DoD Secret clearance.
