Preserves law and order and protects life and property.
Deputies assigned to this position have the primary responsibility of conducting investigations of criminal activity, and make interpretations of federal and state law, and county ordinances.
Must be proficient in the use of firearms.
Must be willing to work odd hours as needed.
Must be able to testify in criminal trials in state and federal court.
Duties Performs law enforcement duty in plain clothes and requires the use of considerable discretion and the application of specialized knowledge and abilities in the investigation and detection of crime.
Receives assignments from deputies of a higher rank that consist of specific cases to be followed to conclusion.
Must exercise considerable independent judgment.
The ability to remember names and faces is beneficial.
Must be able to deal firmly, but courteously with the public.
Interview victims, witnesses and suspects of reported criminal activity.
Documents progress on current investigations.
Adheres to agency guidelines, policies, procedures and the law when conducting investigations.
Must be able to work flexible hours and any overtime scheduled and unscheduled.
Serves arrest or search warrants.
Works with informants.
Performs drug related investigations.
Searches pawn tickets and compares them to items stolen.
Attends schools or courses as required.
Collects and preserves evidence/property.
Requires regular and predictable attendance.
Performs related duties as necessary.
Qualifications Eligibility Candidates who have received an overall below standards evaluation on either of their two most recent performance evaluations, will not be eligible for promotion.
Candidates must be in good standing in accordance with G.
O.
15.
01 (C)(4) to be eligible to participate in the promotion process and must have worked at least 100 days during the last twelve (12) months unless a waiver is granted by the Sheriff or designee.

) Minimum Qualifications Full-time Deputy with at least three (3) years of experience with Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Operational Services Bureau at the time of the promotional test.
Additional training and experience in investigative techniques is desired.
High School diploma or GED.
Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida.
Valid Florida Driver's License.
No pending disciplinary action.

Must be physically able to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
