COMPUTER SCIENTIST

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of computer sciences so as to be able to serve as software engineering expert to resolve difficult problems and issues, and to plan, design, monitor, and evaluate complex computer programs and projects; knowledge new technologies to solve problems on assigned systems not resolvable through conventional methods; knowledge of related mathematical and scientific disciplines is require; knowledge of commercial computer network and software engineering principles, concepts, to gather, assemble, and analyze requirements, develop designs and solutions, and troubleshoot computer networks and software applications. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge and skill in the application of DoD, AF, and commercial computer network and software engineering principles, concepts, to include the skill to gather, assemble, and analyze requirements, develop designs and solutions, and troubleshoot computer networks and software applications. 2. Skill in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science including computer system architecture, system software organization, database design and implementation, and object- oriented analysis and design. 3. Knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of computer systems, including contingency planning for events ranging from fault disruption to fire, water, smoke, and electrical problems, to full disaster. 4. Knowledge of National, DoD, AF, and local computer systems information assurance and security requirements. Knowledge sufficient to design and implement classified computer networks and software applications in compliance with National, DoD, and AF policy such as Joint Air Force, Anny, Navy (JAFAN), Director Central Intelligence Directorate (DCID) and the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). 5. Ability to inspire, motivate and guide others toward goal accomplishment. Leadership ability, including the ability to coach, mentor and challenge subordinates; ability to adapt leadership style to a variety of situations; and ability to model high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for the individual by applying these values to daily behaviors. 6. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with external individuals and groups and to serve as spokesperson for the organization, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
